Save it from the app
For your own Reels, posts and IGTV videos, Instagram already offers a save option. It is fast, it always works, and it needs no third party.
Reach for a download only when you need something the app cannot give you — usually the underlying file for editing, rather than the version Instagram prepares for re-uploading.
Reels, posts and IGTV are different things
They arrive as different URLs, and confusing them is a common cause of a link not working.
- Reels — instagram.com/reel/… — vertical video, the format most people mean.
- Feed posts — instagram.com/p/… — only the video case matters here; a photo or carousel has nothing to download.
- IGTV — instagram.com/tv/… — long-form video uploaded from the app.
- Stories — instagram.com/stories/user/12345… — removed roughly a day after posting, so the link only works while the story is live.
Where this currently falls short
Instagram support here is limited and inconsistent, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. Many genuinely public Reels return nothing.
The cause is on Instagram’s side: it changes how it delivers media regularly, and any extractor is playing catch-up. This is the most common failure on this site.
- A public Reel may fail while the post is perfectly viewable in a browser.
- There is usually no quality selector — most posts publish a single rendition.
- Carousel posts with several media items are not handled.
- No audio-only download is available for Instagram.
Trying it anyway
Paste the link into the Instagram Video Downloader and check the result. The platform is detected from the link shape, so a profile or feed URL will be obvious immediately.
If it fails, retrying later sometimes works when Instagram has settled. When it does not, saving from the app is currently the more reliable route — that is not a workaround for a broken tool, it is an honest statement of where this platform stands.
Common questions
Why will my public Reel not download?
This is a real and common limitation, not a mistake on your part. Instagram changes how it serves media often and the extractor does not always keep up. Some public Reels will work and others will not; if it persists, use the app.
Can I download my private Reel?
No. Only publicly viewable posts can be read at all. Anything restricted to approved followers is not accessible to any link-based tool, and none here attempts to work around that.
Does it remove the Instagram watermark?
Only where Instagram publishes an unwatermarked copy to its CDN, which it does for some accounts and not others. For an account that does not, the file carries the mark and nothing is removed.
